Seens to be a huge sistemic problem with +/- 1 year of operation in a lot of units. I hear a low level hum in all speakers on all channels (DVD, CBL, AUX, GAME, etc). I have a TX-SR705 with the terrible HUMMM problem. The noise started 2 weeks ago, about a year after I bought it.
This unit replaced a higher end Yamaha but I wanted the extra amps to power some outside speakers and it has done a great job so far. So far I have been quite pleased with this unit. I didn't use the speaker calibration microphone was pretty easy to do manually.
Can hardly wait for it to get dark so we can sit out back, drink some wine, and listen to Deep Tracks. I don't need any help operating it and the sound is awesome (with good speakers at least). We also liked this receiver because it had a zone 2, so we could wire speakers out to our back patio, which we just completed today. We have a Harman Kardon in our basement that sounds very good but is difficult, not very user-friendly. Isn't life sweet. When we put a flat screen over our fireplace in the great room, we chose this receiver because prior reviewers said it very simple to use and sounded great. Hubby had to make an index card of what to set where for watching satellite, DVDs, listening to CDs, etc, in order for me and our daughter could actually use it. They couldn't have been more correct.
If you like to jam out this receiver can not handle it. When listening to music really loud the receiver would shut itself off. Liked the receiver. We have high end speakers, so the 100watts didn't have enough power output.
The sound on this was AMAZING. 9/10 reviews via the magazine or internet were all positive. I have been shopping around for the last 6 months for a THX receiver. My budget was no more than $500. This receiver has a clear/clean amp power.Video upscaling is a "pass-through". It was SILVER in color but this was not an issue for me. It took me no more than 45 minutes to set up via HDMI cables.
For now though, I'm good. It's a 5.1 set-up but there's room for up to 7.1 set up.
So for $380 I thought it was a STEAL. My speaker wires are all Audioquest Type 4.
I went back and forth on the SR806 and SR706 for awhile, but their price keeps on going up. The system I have hooked on this: 42" Panasonic Plasma, Definitive BP7004 (front), CLR 2000 (center), Definitive BP7006 (back) and a 12" Velodyne sub.
Enough said.buy it under $500 and you won't be sorry. I was very lucky that I was able to buy this for $410 minus the $30 when you sign up for the Amazon CC.
Besides, I can't see the dusts on this color.
